If your power windows are inoperable, or if they only work intermittently, you may have a faulty window switch. Like most electric items, the window switch will eventually fail. The 2000 to 2005 Chevy Impala’s power-window switch is mounted on the door-panel armrest. The switch is mounted in the same assembly as the power-mirror switch. Removing the old switch and installing a new one does not require professional assistance, as long as you have a few tools. Unhook the negative battery cable with the pliers. When installing the new window switch, you’ll be handling the power-window wiring. Unhooking the negative battery cable protects you from shock. Remove the two Phillips screws from the door-panel coin holder. Grasp the power-window switch housing and pull it up firmly to remove it from the door panel.
