Installing a wall bed solves a number of problems in a small room or apartment. Folding a bed into the wall is a time-proven way to make a small area do double duty and is particularly nice to have as a guest room option when a foldout couch is not desirable. Select a bed size that fits your need and room; consider what will have to moved when the bed is opened as well as the additional heft of a larger mattress. Most wall beds are twin size however a king-size bed is possible if the application works for you. Measure the height, width and depth of the mattress you have chosen as this will be the size of the box you’ll need in the wall. Choose a thin mattress to ensure it will fit into the opening. Build your bed box by securing lumber of your choice to the plywood bottom. You can see the bottom of the box when the bed is in the upright position so select a veneer that will fit the furnishings in the room.
