Modern laminate floors like Anchors Away brand are nearly indistinguishable from traditional hardwood flooring, and are much easier to install. Unlike hardwood floors, laminates are not affixed to the subfloor; they “float” above the underlayment on a foam pad, with each plank either glued to, or interlocked with, its neighbors. Laminate floors are more durable than hardwood, but they cannot be refinished or repaired in the same manner as traditional oak floors. In general, it is easier to install laminates than regular hardwood. Remove the baseboards around the edge of the room, numbering them to make reinstallation easier.
