How Do You Install Cedar Siding Shingles On Strapping?
Cedar siding shingles are a traditional building material that has been used for hundreds of years. Properly installed and maintained, cedar shingles can last for many decades. Cedar shingles can be mounted to the exterior of a house sheathed in strapping. Strapping consists of a series of wooden strips that are fastened over the exterior wall studs. Strapping is sometimes used in place of plywood or OSB to sheath the house. Strapping can also be referred to as: “open lathe application,” “space sheathing,” or “skip sheathing.” Create a story pole. Use a pencil to mark the base, or butt line, or each course of shingles. Start the first course about 2 inches below where the house rests on its foundation. Each subsequent course should fall so that approximately 40 percent of the underlying shingle course is exposed.
