If you love the look of ceramic tile or marble, but hate the cold feet feeling they give, there’s a solution to your dilemma–floor electric heat. Thin enough to be installed between the tile backer board and the tile itself, this wire system provides enough heat to take the chill off the floor, but only uses electricity equivalent to one to three 100 watt light bulbs (depending on the heat setting you choose). If this seems like a sound solution, read on to learn how to install floor electric heat under a tile floor. Prepare your floor by laying backer board down on top of the existing sub floor. Secure it with adhesive and backer board screws. Determine the layout of your floor. Walk around and determine the “walking area” where you would like heat. Keep in mind that you don’t need cables under cabinets, tubs or showers. Lay out a pattern for the cables to follow on your floor, keeping them 3 inches apart and 6 inches away from walls, cabinets and the toilet wax ring. Run the pattern
