Installing a new wall light in place of an old existing one is among the easiest do-it-yourself electrical projects. In almost all cases, the electrical box for the lights contains just three wires (white, black and bare copper grounding). Most wall light fixtures are lightweight and easy to mount, unlike ceiling fans or electric chandeliers, which are more difficult undertakings. Make sure the new light fixture has a base that’s at least as large as that of the old fixture, so you don’t have to touch up the paint on the wall around it. Turn off the electricity to the existing light at the house circuit box. Take out screws around the base of the existing light. Pull it away from the wall. Remove the wire connectors holding the wires from the light to the wires from the electrical box. Remove the light completely.
