It is considered a floating floor because it is not secured to the floor, because when the weather changes, laminate flooring will expand and contract. This type of flooring requires a 1/4-inch gap between the laminate and the wall or any other fixtures in the room to allow for expansion. Each section of laminate clicks together, forming a tight, gapless seam. Laminate flooring can be installed over any hard surface, including outdoor carpet, as long as the floor is level and flat. If the floor isn’t flat, then you will have to fill in the spots that aren’t level with a self-leveling compound. Slowly slide the level across the floor and locate any low spots. Fill in all of the low spots as you
