To save manufacturing costs or space, laptop manufacturers occasionally put the RAM bay underneath the keyboard. This makes upgrading or swapping out the RAM sticks a much more painful experience. This guide will help you get up underneath that keyboard without damaging fragile parts. Make sure the laptop is turned off. Then unplug it from the wall, and take out the battery for safety precautions. You can also take out the hard disk drive and rear RAM sticks for extra safety. Take a look at the bottom of your laptop. You’ll notice on some models that there’s numbers, the letter K or a small keyboard icon next to some of the screws. These usually indicate which screws hold in the keyboard. Carefully take out these screws with a T-8 screwdriver or small Phillips head where applicable.
