How Do You Install Trim With Metal Stud Framing?

0

Installing trim on walls framed with metal studs is easy if you have the right fasteners. There are three common methods for installing trim on metal-studded walls. Pneumatic nails will penetrate light-gauge metal studs, but have little holding power. Glue can attach trim to walls with metal studs, but clamping the work while the glue dries is problematic. The one method that works every time is trim head screws. Thsese were designed for attaching trim to walls framed with metal studs. The screws have a small head with a recessed square drive. The small head is countersunk into the trim, and leaves a 3/16-inch-diameter hole. Trim head screws are available in No. 7 and No. 8 diameters, and in various lengths. For most trim applications, a No. 7, 1 5/8-inch screw is sufficient. Pre-drill the holes for the trim head screws, using a 3/32-inch or 1/8-inch drill bit. It’s not necessary or desirable to drill through the metal stud; just drill through the trim piece. Place the square drive bit
