Your wardrobe is an investment and each time a piece of clothing shrinks so that it is not wearable is a loss to your investment. These easy steps will help you keep your wardrobe fitting well. Buy clothes less likely to shrink – Wool and Cotton are the two fibers most likely to shrink. When buying clothes look for wool blends or cotton blends. The only exception to this is if you are buying white cotton, you can bleach 100% cotton and keep it crisp white, but if you bleach a cotton blend it may yellow. Wash in cold water – Wash all clothes in either the washing machine or hand wash that may shrink with the coldest water possible. Leave warm and hot loads for items that you know will not shrink. The hotter the water, the more shrinkage will occur. Hang to dry – The dryer is usually responsible for 90% of the shrinking that will take place with your clothes.
