Mortal Kombat is a very popular duel fighting video game series. It started out in arcades and eventually migrated to home game consoles, with the home versions being created exclusively by Midway Games. Mortal Kombat’s distinction from its contemporaries is its realistic digitized sprites and extreme and graphic violence. Unlike Street Fighter, for example, whose sprites are animated cartoons, Mortal Kombat’s digitized sprites are based on actors, making the characters seem very realistic.
