How Do You Lay Porcelain Floor Tiles?
Installing porcelain tile as a do-it-yourself project can be challenging and rewarding. Installing porcelain is not much different than other types of tile such as ceramic or slate. The “prep” work underneath is just as important as the laying of the tile–a poor prep job will show in the finished product. Measure the distance of the room to be tiled to find the center. First, measure the length at the longest distance, and then the width at the widest point. Mark the halfway point of each of these measurements. Use a chalk box to snap a line across the floor, from wall to wall, following your marks. Do this for both the width and length of the room. You should have two chalk lines crossing the floor perpendicular to each other, intersecting at your center mark. Check your lines for square. Starting at the center mark where the two lines intersect, measure three feet out on any line and make a mark. On any perpendicular line measure four feet out from the center and make a mark. Measur
