How Do You Lower A Torsion Bar?
Automotive torsion bars are a type of suspension spring that lifts the vehicle up and provides ride dampening. Most can be adjusted with a bolt, set into the bar mount where it meets the frame. The average backyard mechanic will spend about 20 minutes raising or lowering a torsion bar properly. Lowering a Torsion Bar Step 1 Jack up the vehicle at the wheel of the desired torsion bar. The suspension should not have a load at the torsion bar to adjust it—the adjustment bolt will turn easier. Step 2 Locate and turn the torsion bar adjustment bolt in a counter-clockwise direction. The bolt will usually be mounted upward, accessible from underneath the torsion bar mount. The mount could have a segregated bolt off to one side or it could be incorporated into the center of the mount plate. Step 3 Lower the vehicle from the jack stands. Check the frame to ground measurements to ensure progress. The process may have to be repeated to achieve the desired height. Turning the bolt clockwise will
