How Do You Lower A Torsion Bar?
Automotive torsion bars are a type of suspension spring that lifts the vehicle up and provides ride dampening. Most can be adjusted with a bolt, set into the bar mount where it meets the frame. The average backyard mechanic will spend about 20 minutes raising or lowering a torsion bar properly. Lowering a Torsion Bar Step 1 Jack up the vehicle at the wheel of the desired torsion bar. The suspension should not have a load at the torsion bar to adjust it—the adjustment bolt will turn easier. Step 2 Locate and turn the torsion bar adjustment bolt in a counter-clockwise direction. The bolt will usually be mounted upward, accessible from underneath the torsion bar mount. The mount could have a segregated bolt off to one side or it could be incorporated into the center of the mount plate. Step 3 Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
