However, whatever you call your 1985 or newer Geo Metro, you will want to lubricate its hood latch, hatchback latch and/or trunk latch every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or as often as you change your oil. Visit your local auto supply, hardware or home improvement store and pick up a can of WD-40 and an aerosol lithium grease like Pyroil White Lithium Grease. These items are your primary tools when you lubricate your latches. Work on the hood latch first. Pop the hood and secure it. Then clear away surface grime and debris from the latch assembly. Clear away any grime that has built up inside the latch assembly. Use your fingers or wrap a rag around a screwdriver and swab out the inside of the latch assembly.
