Adobe Illustrator is too expensive for most home users, such as moms who want to save money by making their own birthday cards or invitations. The Open Source community has provided Inkscape as a great alternative. Here’s a tutorial for a simple birthday card. DOWNLOAD INKSCAPE from http://www.inkscape.org/download UNZIP THE FOLDER. You don’t even need to install it. OPEN TEMPLATE–Select “File/New/Letter_landscape. SELECT LINE TOOL–It’s the blue one. DRAW a vertical line halfway across the page template. Half of 11 is 5 1/2, so start at 5 1/2 on the ruler. Click twice to end it, or else it thinks you want to make another line. There’s your card. Now: ADD LAYER. Select Layer/Add Layer.
