A fleece drawstring backpack is a great project to work on with any child. It gives the child a chance to learn some basic sewing skills, and at the end of the project she will have a soft pack that she can fill with things for a picnic or sleepover. This backpack won’t be meant to carry heavy items like books, but it will the perfect thing to take a few items to an slumber party or play date. Cut two pieces from the fleece measuring 2 feet by 1 foot. Fold the top edge of one piece down one inch. Sew this hem in place, creating a tunnel in the fabric at least a half-inch wide. Trim the excess fabric from the hem. Do the same with the other piece. Lay one piece of the fleece over the other so that the unfinished side of each hem you made is on the outside.
