Window cornices are a perfect way to dress up a plain window or top off a beautiful set of drapes. Traditionally, window cornices are made from wood, but many people lack the tools or skill necessary to build wooden cornices. Unless you want to stain or attach molding to your cornice, building your cornice from wood isn’t necessary. If you want a fabric-covered cornice to top off your window, you can easily make an attractive cornice out of foam. Step 1 Measure the top of your window for the length needed for the cornice. Be sure to take into account blinds or curtain rods in your measurement, if they will be located behind the cornice. Determine how far from the wall you need your cornice to extend. Make sure you leave enough room for blinds or curtain rods in your measurement. Step 2 Cut a long block of foam into the lengths needed for the front of the cornice and the 2 side pieces.
