Keychain fobs are easy, inexpensive gifts to make. All you need are some basic tools and a small piece of scrap leather. Determine the desired dimensions and shape of the keychain fob. An average fob is approximately 3 to 4 inches in length and 1½ to 2 inches in width. Add 1¼ inches to the desired length to allow for the tab that will be looped around the key ring. Obtain a piece of leather large enough to accommodate the desired dimensions. A good weight for a leather fob is 4 to 6 ounces. You will also need a rivet for holding the looped tab in place. Refer to ‘eHow to Cut Leather’ and ‘eHow to Finish the Edges of a Piece of Leather’ for instructions on marking the shape of the fob onto the leather, cutting out the shape and finishing the edges.
