Memorizing the times table of multiplication is one of childhood’s chores. It comes easily to some, but to most it requires lots of drill and effort at home as well as in school. Parents can make this drill much less painful with a simple homemade game of cards that is based on the popular kids’ game of War. In this case, it’s Times Table War! Read on to learn more. Choose whether you will limit your card game to part of the times table, or do all of it. Create a list of prime numbers that are within this range, such as 23, 29, 13 or 37. On each index card, write one multiplication problem. Of course, don’t include the answer. Leave the other side blank. On some index cards, just write a prime number. The deck will include these numbers, too. Make sure you have created an even number of cards. Shuffle these cards into a deck, and when the deck is well-shuffled, divide it into equal piles.
