If you need a mask for a costume party or you’re just looking for some rainy day fun, try paper mache. It can be a little messy, but it’s so simple even young kids can do it. Making a mask is a fun way to test your creativity and it’s a great family craft project. Sketch some ideas on paper first, and then break out the paper mache and let the fun begin. Step 1 Tear newspaper into strips about an inch wide and six or seven inches long and set aside. Step 2 Inflate a 12 inch balloon with air and tie closed. Blow it up to the size you want based on how large the mask needs to be to fit on your face. Step 3 Cover a large cup or mug with plastic wrap and then set the balloon on top of it. The cup will act as a base to hold your balloon while you work on it and the plastic wrap will keep the balloon from sticking to the cup once you apply the paper mache.
