Ladybugs are small insects that have red bodies with black dots. Making a papier mache ladybug is simple and can be a fun project for children. This design makes two small ladybugs. Step 1 Cover your work area and clothes to protect them from the papier mache. Step 2 Blow the balloon up until it reaches 3 inches in diameter. Tie the balloon off so it keeps its shape. Step 3 Mix the flour and water together in a bowl or in a tray to make a paste. The paste should have the consistency of mashed potatoes, thick but still a little runny. Step 4 Cut the newspaper into pieces 1/2- to 1-inch wide. Soak the pieces in the paste for no more than 5 minutes. Cover the balloon with the soaked newspaper pieces.
