Cut the fishing line or metallic thread into pieces 20 inches long and use it to thread a needle. Fold over about 1/2 inch at the ends of the ribbon, and press it with your fingertip, or cut the end with pinking shears. Fold the ribbon back and forth over itself like an accordion and hold it between your thumb and forefinger. Push the needle through the center of the folded ribbon, starting at the bottom and exiting at the top.
