If you have ever worked worked in retail you are probably familiar with the shift schedule. A schedule is a matrix which tells employees when they have to work and who they are working with. To management, however, a schedule is something completely different. The schedule has to ensure that there is enough staff to cover the work, while taking into account vacations and other time-off requests. One of the most important things a manager does each week is to make the schedule. List the days and dates of the week in a row across your spreadsheet or the top of your sheet of paper. List your employees in a column down the left-hand side of the sheet. You’ll have a matrix which graphs employees over the week. Read your employee shift and time off requests. Enter them into the spread sheet.
