A classic surfer necklace is just a necklace made with small, flat shell beads known as “heishi beads,” with a tiny hole in them so they can by strung together. These small pieces of shell come in perfectly round shapes and even irregular, uneven shapes. They also come in many colors, but the most popular colors are white, off-white and other colors found in nature. If you are feeling creative you can easily and inexpensively make your own surfer necklace. Step 1 Use a measuring tape to measure your neck to determine the size for your necklace. Measure the exact length you want to necklace to be and add 2 inches to give yourself room on the string to attach your clasp at the ends.
