Obtain permission from the landowner or cemetery office to make a tombstone rubbing. Many local laws prohibit trespassing. There are also restrictions in some areas about tombstone rubbing, as improperly done, rubbing can damage the tombstone. Prepare for the rubbing. Take a photograph of the tombstone.
