Making this trivet is a way to preserve a favorite dish that was broken, or make items to go with your kitchen decor that may not be available in a store. Put on safety glasses. Put the item to be broken into heavy canvas bag. Close the bag. With the hammer break the plate into the sizes that will fit your design. Put on gloves. Remove broken pieces from the bag and place them on the board in the design that pleases you. Use the flattest pieces that you have. For any that have sharp edges file them now. If you are using small purchased tile this step is probably not necessary. Once you have the design in place either: use a craft stick to apply mastik to the back of the pieces and allow 24 hours for it to set OR use a hot glue gun and glue them in place, waiting only a minute or so to allow it to dry.
