How Do You Make A Warping Board?

0

A warping board is used by both weavers and dyers to organize yarn into neat rows for dyeing and measuring out yarn. All you need is a piece of ply board and wooden dowels cut to pegs. A little careful measuring and you’re on your way to having your own handy warping board. Step 1 Cut the ply board down to the size that you want. The typical size is 40 inches wide and 36 inches tall. This provides enough of an edge and space to wind enough yarn for all your projects. If you don’t want a warping board quite as large, you can scale the project down. Step 2 Cut your dowel rods to size. You will need 20 pegs out of the dowel rod all cut to be 6 1/4 inches long. Step 3 Sand down the edges of all your materials. You want the board and dowels to be smooth so that assembly goes easily and so that the yarn doesn’t get caught on the cut edges of the wood. Step 4 Use a drill bit that matches the diameter of the dowel rods, make 4 holes with the drill along both the top and the bottom of the board
