How Do You Make An Apache Throwing Star?
An Apache throwing star is essentially two pointed sticks tied at right angles to one another to form a cross. You throw it baseball-style so that it spins end over end towards your target. The idea of using a four-pointed projectile rather than just a double-pointed stick is that it increases the likelihood that the weapon will strike the target. If you are in the field and have an hour to spare, you can make an Apache throwing star for hunting small game. Choose two relatively straight sticks of a hardwood such as oak. Softwood (like pine) is too light and pliant to be able to lodge deep into your target. If you have a saw, live sticks are harder and stronger. Strong dead ones work, too. Lay the sticks across one another and note where they cross. Cut out a notch in each stick, about halfway deep, so that they will fit snugly together. Sharpen all four points of your Apache throwing star to be. Do it before tying them together; this will make it easier to grip. Fire-harden the sharpe
