The majority of carpet fresheners found in your local department store are often expensive and full of harsh chemicals and synthetic perfumes. If you prefer natural cleaning products and want to freshen up your carpets, you can make your own affective and great smelling freshener at home. With the light fresh smell of baby powder and your favorite essential oil, your house will be smelling great in no time. Measure 1 1/2 cups of baby powder, 1/2 cup of borax and 2 tbsp. of baking soda in a medium bowl. Add 15 drops of essential oil to the bowl. You may use one oil, or a combination of essential oils. Choose your favorite scent or select specific oils for their affects, for example a combination of eucalyptus and ylang ylang will deter fleas, lavender has a calming affect and cardamom and patchouli are natural aphrodisiacs.
