How Do You Make Caramel & Chocolate Covered Pretzels?
Sweet caramel and rich chocolate are the perfect complements to salty, crunchy pretzels. Why not combine all three for a decadent treat? These sweets are made with long, thick pretzel rods to make for easy munching. Because this recipe calls for homemade caramel, the process for making these pretzels can be long, but the result is worth the extra work. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and set aside. Put butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, condensed milk and salt into a saucepan over medium-low heat. Slowly bring it to a boil. Using a candy thermometer, monitor the syrup until it reaches the soft-ball stage (235 to 245 degrees Fahrenheit). Remove the caramel from the heat. Dip the pretzel rods in the caramel, covering about 3/4 of each stick (leave one end uncoated to use as a handle). Use a rubber spatula to spread the caramel onto each rod, if necessary.
