Most freshwater pearls are cultivated in China with freshwater mussels and oysters. Freshwater pearls are normally more irregular in shape than are sea pearls. Freshwater pearls range in size from 4 millimeters to 10 millimeters. They are used in clothing, jewelry and decorations. Making pearl jewelry is not all that difficult–all you need are the right tools. Cut the beading thread to twice the length you want the necklace. For example, if you want a 24 inch necklace, you would cut the beading thread to 48 inches. Make sure you add an extra inch or so for knotting. Thread the beading needle so that the thread is half the length of the cut. So if you cut a 48 inch piece of thread, after threading the needle it should only be 24 inches.
