A guggle muggle is a warm drink made of milk and honey. The concoction is an old Jewish comfort remedy used to soothe a sore throat and knock out the common cold. Optional brandy added to the drink makes it suitable for adults and children. Many people still drink a guggle muggle to ease pain in the throat from a cold or allergies. Additionally, the traditional recipe calls for adding a raw egg yolk to the mixture. Because of health concerns, omitting the yolk from recipes is a common practice. This recipe is also referred to as a murgle gurgle. Another alternate recipe calls for citrus juices, not milk. Heat 1 cup milk until it is warm but not scorched. Add 1 tbsp. honey, 1 egg yolk (optional) and 1 tsp. or more brandy (also optional). Whisk until all the ingredients are mixed. Sprinkle nutmeg on the top. Serve warm. Combine juices of 1 grapefruit, 1 lemon and 1 orange, and 1 tbsp. honey in a saucepan, and bring them to a boil. Add 1 oz. brandy to the mixture. Serve warm. more
