Preheat Range Oven to 450 degrees. 2. Get equipment together. Generously grease and flour your 8 inch metal. Set it aside. 3. In your medium mixing bowl add about a half of a bowl of the self-rising flour. 4. Smooth the flour level and make a hole in the middle, but don’t get it too deep. If you touch the bottom of the bowl, it is too deep. 5. Place in the hole about 1 tablespoon of shortening. Using our fingers work the shortening into the flour until it looks like crumb. Pour a about 1/4 cup of buttermilk into it and knead the dough with your hands until you have a smooth ball. If the ball is not big enough knead about 1/8 of a cup of buttermilk back into it with a little more flour. You can see how big your ball is as you go along.
