How Do You Make Hooked Rag Rugs?

0

Hooked rag rugs require a little preparation, but they are fun and easy to make once you get started and can provide a relaxing way to entertain yourself in the evenings for several days at a time. They are also a practical way to re-use old scraps of various fabrics rather than throwing tired old clothing away. Push the rug hook through the first hole you’ll be using (about 2 inches in from the edge to leave room for the border) and use it to snag a loop of fabric, then pull the hooked fabric through the hole to form a loop about 1/2-inch tall, depending on your preference. Skip one hole, and repeat the process, drawing up another 1/2-inch tall loop in the next hole. Continue the process until you have a completed rug, leaving a couple of inches of loose fabric on the ends. Turn the edges of the rug under and sew or glue them into place to create a finished look. Sew rug backing onto the back of your rug if you would like. Purchase rug backing at craft stores.
