Outdoor parties and events tend to need some lighting when the sun goes down. Whether the party is in your backyard or at an outdoor event venue, there are ways you can light up your party with inexpensive party lighting you can make yourself. Rummage for jars. To start assembling your DIY outdoor party lights, gather any clear jars you have around the house. You can also find inexpensive clear jars at garage sales, flea markets and antique shops. The jars do not need to match, so you can have different jars with various shapes, sizes and styles. Fill the jars with sand. Pour some sand into the bottom of the jar. Fill the jar with enough sand that you can lodge the candle into it so the candle sits up straight and won’t tip over. Insert candles. Use candles you already have and stock up on candles from garage sales, flea markets or when on sale at your favorite store. You’ll probably want to use a pillar or votive candle, because the candle needs to have a wide enough base to stand on
