Window treatments can be expensive even when you make them yourself. It is hard to find decorator fabric for less than $23 a yard, and many window treatments require yards and yards of fabric. You can make inexpensive window treatments if you shop for fabric outside the home decor section. Look in the bargain bin at the variety store for dishtowels and in the quilting section for muslin. These can both be made into inexpensive window treatments. If you don’t mind spending a little time sewing by hand, you can even make simple window treatments without a sewing machine. Choose three matching dishtowels and one contrasting or coordinating dishtowel. Cut the unmatched dishtowel in half by folding the towel with the short sides together and cutting along the fold. Fold the cut dishtowels over the curtain rod, dividing it into thirds. On a 36-inch curtain rod, the cut pieces of dishtowel will be centered 12 inches and 24 inches along the rod.
