How Do You Make Japanese Paper Dolls?

0

Paper dolls have been traditional in Japanese culture since the 1500s, initially as toys for children, and later as decorative objects. Japanese paper dolls are created to represent people from all walks of life, including artists, craftsmen, dancers, musicians, and working people. Read on to learn how to make these dolls. Step 1 Cut a simple paper doll body from a piece of poster board. The body should resemble an old-fashioned round clothespin, and should be approximately 7 inches tall. Trim the paper below the head to look like shoulders. Step 2 Make a kimono from a 6-inch square of colored construction paper, and cut a wig shape and a sash measuring about 6 by 3/8 inch from the black construction paper. Cut a small horizontal sit in the center of the wig for the doll’s head. Step 3 Fold the top of the kimono 3/8 inch from the edge of the paper to make a collar. Step 4 Color the collar with colored pencils or markers, and draw a face. Step 5 Lay the kimono with the collar face-down.
