How Do You Make Knitting Needles Using Dowels?
Knitting is a great hobby, and once you start you’ll spend a lot of time with the tools of the trade–the knitting needles. Although they are usually covered with yarn or wool, knitters love their needles and consider them an extension of their own personality. You can get beautiful glass or colored aluminum needles at a lot of different venues, but the wood ones available all seem a lot alike. To make knitting just that much more personal, make your own needles! Start off the craft of making needles with some inexpensive and basic materials, but as you go along you can work with more expensive woods and stains if you want to get a bit fancier. Really, your imagination is your only limit. Go to your local hardware store with your needle sizing guide. Head to the dowel area and select a few dowels that fit the guide for the size needle you want. Choose straight dowels with a smooth surface. Sharpen one end.
