Cream the sugar and butter together in a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer. Add in the eggs, one at a time. Beat well after adding each one. Mix in the vanilla extract. Beat the mixture until it becomes light and fluffy. Add in the sour cream and blend well. Add in the sifted flour mixture in three parts. Beat on low after each addition. Separate the dough into threes sections. Wrap each in saran wrap and store in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before using. Roll out on a flour surface and cut with cookie cutters. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, depending on thickness at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cool then frost or decorate. Sprinkle the tops with sugar if not decorating. These cookies are not very sweet alone.
