How Do You Make Polymer Clay Flower Canes?
Traditionally millefiori slices were made from glass canes, but recently polymer clay has become a common substitute for glass because of the availability and ease of use of the material. Millefiori slices are used to make buttons, beads and mosaics. Flowers are among the easiest shapes to produce in a polymer clay cane, because of its inherent symmetry and because flowers may be made exclusively from circles or ovals. Draw a circle 4 to 6 inches in diameter on a piece of paper. Draw a flower within the confines of the circle. The easiest design for a flower starts with a circle in the middle (representing the center of the flower). Next, draw circles for petals, lining the center of the flower. This flower design should fill up the entire outer circle. Roll out long snakes of polymer clay, and stand them on end over the design, so they fill up the shapes you drew on the paper. Compress the snakes into a rod (the cane). Squeeze, stretch and pinch the cane in the middle until the cane i
