How Do You Make Stage Props 1?

Sometimes a play calls for a tree stump to be part of the scenery, as a place where something is hidden or just to lend atmosphere. What to do? Why, make one, of course! Using your jigsaw, cut the Sonotube in half so that you have two pieces which are each the height you want your finished stump to be. Cut each of those pieces lengthwise into thirds or quarters, so that you have 6-8 trough-looking pieces. Stand these up on your plywood sheet, overlapping their edges, to create an organically-shaped trunk. Use your pencil to trace the shape onto your plywood (so that you can re-create the shape later.) Then, at a good distance from the base of your Sonotube trunk, draw an organic shape to be the base plate for your trunk. (See the photo in Step 3.) Set the sections of Sonotube aside. Use the jigsaw to cut out the base. Sand the edges of the plywood. Arrange your blocks of 1X inside the line you drew around the sections of Sonotube. Affix with glue and screws (screw up from the bottom.)
