You only need to make straight cuts with a serrated knife to construct a frame for your cornice boards. Styrofoam is much more fragile than wood, but you can make your cornice more structurally sound by using thick sheets of foam and gluing lining fabric to the back of the cornice to protect and stabilize it. Cut the front of your cornice to the desired size. Cut two-inch wide pieces of foam, the same height as the board, for the sides of the cornice. The ends of these pieces will be a two-inch square. Use duct tape to attach the sides of the cornice to the back surface of the cornice front keeping all edges even. This box shape is the base of your cornice.
