How Do You Make Thanksgiving Cranberry Sauce?
Cranberry sauce is extremely delicious and extremely easy to make. It is one of the staples of a Thanksgiving feast.
You need one bag of cranberries, a cup of sugar, and a cup of water. You can add your own flavorings like orange zest or cinnamon depending on how you see fit (or how your guests like their cranberry sauce).
Add all of your ingredients to a sauce pan and put the heat on high. Bring it to a boil. Keep stirring the pot and reduce the heat to medium-low. Once the cranberries begin to start breaking or are more tender, the cranberry sauce is done – it should take roughly 1 hour. The sauce should thicken.
Cranberry sauce is an iconic American condiment. Most people use canned sauce because they don’t think about using anything else. Homemade sauce adds a touch of authenticity and class to your Thanksgiving meal. I ventured out and made my own this year. I will never go back. Here’s how you do it. Combine water, brown sugar, orange juice and cinnamon in large pot. Make sure to combine ingredients thoroughly. Bring to a boil momentarily. I recommend using a very large pot to prevent splattering. Wash cranberries and add to boiling water. Reduce liquid temperature to simmer. Simmer for about 1 hour. Sauce will thicken. You can adjust cooking time to achieve desired thickness. If desired, add a pinch of nutmeg to add to the flavor profile. Remove from heat and let cool. Remove cinnamon sticks and discard. Refrigerate until needed for use. Warm sauce prior to serving, if desired. Place in serving dish with spoon.
