How Do You Measure An Insulin Dosage With A Syringe?
Insulin syringes come in several different sizes that allow for higher or lower dose capacities but all of them are marked in units of insulin. Some of the differences in syringes are length of the needle, total insulin capacity and design. Insulin syringes are always disposable and should never be reused. Remove a new syringe from the protective packaging. Do not use any syringe that is not in a package or looks like it may have been tampered with. Open a new alcohol swab and clean the top of the insulin vial you will be using. Cleaning the vial top will help reduce the likelihood of contamination of the insulin. Remove the protective orange cap from the top of the syringe. Determine the dose needed and draw air into the syringe to the desired dose. Pierce the rubber stopper on the vial with the needle on the syringe and inject the air from the syringe into the vial. Invert the vial so that the vial is sitting above the syringe.
