There are some basic measurements that people need to know when shopping for jeans and pants. These are also very handy when advertising items for sale such as on Ebay auctions and similar sites. This guide will tell you how to measure Rise, Inseam and Waist. The “rise” of a jeans is determined by measuring the distance from the crotch [the point where the pants come together] up the zipper to the button at the waist. The average rise is roughly 12 inches or 1 foot. In contrast, low-rise jeans average 8 inches, and may be as little as 3-4 inches. Low-rise pants are made to sit about 3 inches below the belly button. Low rise jeans may also be called lowcut jeans, hipsters, hip-huggers and lowriders jeans.
