Ryobi’s gasoline powered trimmers are 2-cycle engines, also sometimes called two-stroke. Unlike a car, they need a pre-mix of oil and gasoline. The oil acts as a lubricant. Serious engine damage will occur if you don’t mix the lubricant in with the gasoline. Ryobi is also quite picky about which 2-cycle lubricant you use and automotive lubricant definitely won’t work. Even 2-cycle outboard lubricant isn’t recommended by Ryobi. Fill the gasoline can with one gallon of unleaded fuel. Use gasoline intended for automotive use. Add 2.6 ounces of high quality 2-cycle engine lubricant to the can. You can measure 2.6 ounces out, or purchase 2.6 ounces of pre-measured lubricant at your hardware store. You can just empty one pre-measured lubricant into the gas tank. Keep the little container and buy further lubricant in bulk. It will be cheaper. Then just decant the bulk lubricant into your 2.6oz container and pour it into the gallon gas tank. Just don’t lose the little container or you’ll have
