How do you “mock upholster” furniture so that a store bought slipcover fits well.?
I’m sure you’ve already discovered that slipcovers are a bad solution to covering up unattractive furniture. But, if you’re still interested in using the slipcovers, I would suggest using upholstery pins to “tack” down the fabric to the furniture. Upholstery pins look similar to a corkscrew, used to screw through the fabric into the furniture padding. If you’re never going to expose what’s underneath the slipcovers, you can try using a staple-gun with foam. Foam is often available from mattress stores. Foam is expensive, though, and you may want to consider just purchasing new furniture. Also, if you want a really slim/skinny slipcover, there are a few styles available through IKEA stores, which may work for you if your furniture is modern and sleek. If you are going to pay to have custom slipcovers made to fit your furniture, you will probably be able to get them reupholstered for the same price. Good luck!
