Although you can purchase them inexpensively as plain baskets, painted wicker baskets look much nicer. Follow these steps when painting a wicker basket. Remove any old paint from your wicker basket using medium-grade sandpaper. Clean your wicker basket with a soft-bristled brush using warm, soapy water until it is clean and free of dust. Apply a liquid de-glosser, which will remove any grease build-up from the basket and enable the paint to stick better to the surface of the wicker. Allow the basket to dry completely. When you are ready to paint the wicker, set up a space in a well-ventilated area in which to work. Lay drop cloths down to protect the floor and surfaces of nearby objects.
