Painting the window sill a different color than the rest of the frame can add an alternative style to the window treatment that surrounds the frame. You must prepare the window sill before it’s painted, to ensure a lasting finish to the surface. Remove any peeled paint from the sill with a scraping tool. Use a stiff brush to dust the remaining paint chips from the window. Wash the window sill with a combination of one part mild detergent to three or four parts warm water. Rinse with warm water and let dry completely. Clean the sill with a deglosser before continuing. The deglosser removes grease and grime from the area.
