How Do You Paint Pressure Treated Wood For Vegetable Garden Beds?
Pressure-treated wood is one that’s treated with chemical preservatives such as chromated copper arsenate, amine copper quat or copper azone to help protect it from rot, vermin and insects. This heavy-duty wood is used in exterior structures such as decks, picnic tables and raised garden beds–things exposed to dampness and contact with soil. If you have a pressure-treated garden bed, painting the wood will not interfere with your planting. Install your vegetable garden bed with pressure-treated wood. Apply weatherproof sealant immediately and let the wood dry. The drying process will take between two and 12 months; however, it is OK to start planting. Painting the garden bed is mainly for cosmetic purposes. After some time, sprinkle a little water on to the wood and see if it absorbs the water. If the water disappears, you are ready to paint. Semitransparent or oil-based paint works best on pressure-treated wood. If you prefer, you can stain the wood instead. Use a large paint brush.
